Find a place that fits the move.
Compare the lease, the address and the full cost before committing. Availability and application requirements come from the housing provider.
Before paying an application fee
- Confirm the person offering the home is authorized to rent it. Verify the address and avoid relying only on listing photos or a payment request.
- Ask for current rent, deposits, utilities, pet terms, parking, application criteria and move-in timing in writing.
- Test your gate route at your actual duty time. Check the school district by exact address.
- Contact the Military Housing Office about available support and local rental resources.
- Read the lease and any waivers. Ask legal assistance about terms you do not understand.
At move-in
Inspect the home, take dated condition photos, document existing damage and keep a copy of the agreed record. Confirm how to report repairs, who handles emergency maintenance and when utilities transfer.
When orders mean another move
Military lease protections can apply, but eligibility, written notice and the effective termination date matter. Do not assume orders cancel rent immediately. Take the lease and your situation to the installation legal assistance office before choosing your handoff date.
Schedule the required inspections, confirm cleaning and key-return instructions, document condition and provide a forwarding address for final statements.
